World’s Largest Aircraft Set for March Debut in Heathrow

Singapore Airlines has confirmed that its Airbus A380 mega jumbo is due to touchdown at London’s Heathrow for the first time on March 18th. 

The double-deck four-engine airliner’s inaugural flight will also be its first commercial service to Europe.  March 18th ticket holders on board the 471 seat passenger aircraft will receive personalised certificates, recognising their participation in the ‘milestone’ event, as well as limited edition SIA A380 souvenirs and exclusive premium giveaways. 

The A380 will subsequently commence regular scheduled services, operating SQ322 daily on the Singapore-London route.

Commenting on the landmark flight, Singapore International Airlines’ Executive Vice President of Marketing and Regions, Huang Cheng Eng said: “The A380 will provide a capacity expansion on the popular Singapore-London route.

“For the first time an aircraft larger than the B747-400 will fly this route, thereby meaning more seats without the need for more frequencies to what is already one of the world’s busiest airports.”

Continental Launches Heathrow Flights

Heathrow Airport passengers will benefit from the first of what many hope to be a surge in transatlantic flights when Continental Airlines starts flights from London Heathrow and New York Newark and Houston from March 29 2008.

As a result of the recent US-EU Open Skies Agreement, New York flights will operate daily using 283-seat 777-200s, while Houston services use a 174-seat 767-200ER.  The airline will continue to offer flights twice daily from Gatwick to New York and daily to Houston, as well as seasonal daily flights to Cleveland.
