American Airlines Cancels Stansted Flights

Posted on May 29, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

American Airlines has just announced that is pulling out of its Stansted-New York route after just nine months.

The airline is cancelling daily flights which launched last October on July 2.

The decision came following the downfall of US business class airlines MAXjet and Eos which both flew from Essex Airport to New York.

This is the second time that American has failed in its transatlantic ventures from Stansted.

The cancellation of the JFK service comes as part of a major by American as it seeks to cut costs in the face of rising oil prices and a weakening economy.

In a statement , American Airlines’ parent company AMR said it will continue to make additional schedule reductions in other markets.
