Amsterdam Plane Crash Update

Posted on February 26, 2009 by Fiona Hilliard

Flights into and out of Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport have resumed following yesterday’s plane crash.

Nine people died and scores suffered injuries as the plane crashed down in a muddy field as it was coming in to land to at the airport yesterday morning.

Arrivals and Departures to and from Schiphol had been delayed or cancelled, including routes from London Heathrow and Birmingham.

However, the latest passenger information on the Airport’s website says today:
“Air traffic to and from Schiphol Airport has been resumed.”

Meanwhile, an investigation into the accident is continuing.  Flight data recorders were recovered and are being analysed.  Experts say the death toll would have been much higher if the plane had hit a harder surface or if it had been running on a full engine of fuel.
