Anyone for Afghanistan?

Up for an off the beaten track adventure?  How does a trip to Afghanistan grab you?

A Polish-based travel agency is offering a very special package tour for world weary tourists, an all-inclusive trip to the wilds of Afghanistan.  This week, Poznan-based Logos Travel advertised the two-week tour, departing in May as “only for those seeking bruises and adventure.”

Too bad if you’re reaching for your passport, it says the 12 places have already been booked up.

So here’s what you could have enjoyed:

First up, a trip to Kabul, the capital, then an excursion to the western city of Herat and the home of two giant Buddha statues that have stood in the ancient Silk Road town of Bamivan for 1500 years.

The company’s website also dangles the possibility of a trip to Tora Bora, the alleged hiding place of Osama bin Laden.

If that’s not enough excitement, intrepid travellers can also to take a trip to Band-e-Amir, recently established as Afghanistan’s first national park. Let’s just hope the local practice of blasting hand grenades into the lake (also known as fishing) doesn’t distract from the glass-like serenity of the blue and turquoise waters.
