Argus Car Hire Airport Survival Guide
Hand Luggage Restrictions:
New Airport Security Rules have been implemented which restrict the quantity of liquids, gels and pastes that passengers may carry in their hand luggage. The new rules apply to all passengers travelling from any EU Airport. It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the new rules beforehand to avoid the added stress of having expensive beauty products confiscated!
New EU Hand Baggage Restrictions
- All liquid containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic, zip lock or resealable bag that is no larger than 20cm x 20cm or one litre capacity.
- All items should fit in the bag comfortably and the bag should be completely sealed.
- Transparent re-sealable bags have been limited to one per person.
- During the Airport Security Search, the plastic bag must be removed from hand luggage so that they may be x-ray screened separately.
- Liquids must be contained in separate containers not exceeding 100ml (approximately 4fl. Oz) and may include:
- Suntan lotions
- Toothpaste
- Hair gel/Hair spray
- Perfumes
- Liquid or aerosol deodorants
- Cosmetics
- Water and other drinks
- Soups
- Syrups
- Any other item/product of similar consistency
However, there are two exceptions to the rules:
- Baby food needed during the flight
- Medicines required during the flight
These items must be placed in a separate transparent re-sealable bag and presented separately at the security screening area.
Some Security Advice
- Be sure to limit the quantities of liquids to what you will need during the duration of the flight only.
- Prepare the items for the re-sealable bag before arriving at the airport.
- Gifts carried in hand luggage should be unwrapped.
- Do not place lighters in hand luggage.
- Have your re-sealable bag of liquids ready to hand over as you approach the security screening point.
- All coats and jackets will have to be removed ready to be screened and metal objects such coins, belts and mobile phones may need to be placed in plastic trays to be screened separately.
- If carrying a laptop or any other large electrical item, have it ready for screening.
- Some airports may require you to remove your footwear.
Duty Free Purchases
- You may take on board liquid items of any size that have been purchased after the security point.
- Some restrictions apply to duty free purchases made on return journeys where passengers change flights at an EU airport.
