Avoid Disappointment: Book Summer Car Hire Early
Posted on February 04, 2009 by Fiona Hilliard
The last-minute bargain car hire deal has had its day (for now at least). Argus Car Hire is being forced to urge holidaymakers to book their summer car hire early this year as fears grow about a shortage in vehicles for the peak 2009 season.
As a result of the worldwide downturn in the motor manufacturing industry, car hire suppliers everywhere have cut fleets by 30%. Usually, car hire companies increase their fleets at peak times and then reduce them through winter and off-peak periods. This year however, companies are exercising caution by keeping the same number of vehicles throughout the year and not increasing supply for traditionally busy periods.
Commenting on the shortage in vehicles, Argus Online Brand Manager Emma Coakley says: “Availability at peak times like summer is always low but this year, with the downturn in manufacturing and supply, the situation looks set to get a lot worse. Holidaymakers will need to book early to avoid disappointment and increased rates this summer.”
