BA and Virgin Shell Out Over Price Fixing

Posted on February 15, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

Have you flown long-haul with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic over the past two to four years?  If so, you may be eligible for a refund.  British Airways and Virgin have reached an agreement over a class action suit regarding the over-charging of customers between 11 August 2004 and 23 March 2006, which means customers are due a partial refund of fuel surcharges.

British Airways was fined for price-fixing on fuel surcharges while Virgin also admitted breaching the law but escaped a fine.

The refunds are calculated as one third of the fuel surcharge, between about £1 (€1.35) to £11.50 (€15.50).  Virgin has pledged to repay between £2 (€2.70) and £10 (€13.50) to customers who believed they were over-charged.  Individual passengers and businesses who bought a ticket on either airline in the UK or US will be able to claim the  refunds.
