We’re thinking about taking the kids on a holiday (somewhere snowy preferably) over Christmas. We don’t really want to take them skiing as they are aged just 7 and 4.  They’d be happy enough with just sledging or playing in the snow.  Flights from Heathrow or Bristol if possible?  We’re looking for something more magical than commercial.

Copenhagen would be perfect for you and your family.  As SAS flies from Heathrow to Copenhagen Airport you won’t have to catch any connecting flights.  I visited the city last Christmas and I have to say it is truly magical.

In the city that inspired the fairytales of Hans Christian Anderson, you’d expect no less.  Top of your must-see list should be Tivoli Gardens.  Situated right in the heart of the city, the park transforms over the festive season into the most authentic winter wonderland imaginable.  Victorian style carousels, pretty-as a picture merry-go-rounds and winking fairy lights all play their part in adding to the seasonal cheer.  There’s even a purpose-built home for Santa’s little helpers called Pixieville, where you can watch mechanical pixies going about their daily chores.

Also close by is the picturesque harbour of Nyhaven, where a beautiful outdoor ice-rink allows you to rent skates by the hour.  As far as I can remember, children may also bring sledges along;)

Generally speaking, Copenhagen is a very child-friendly city and you’ll find hotels and restaurants very accommodating.
