Good news if you’re planning to explore the Balearics with Malaga car hire this summer…

British Airways has just announced that it is increasing its capacity for flights from  London City Airport to Palma by 50 percent, in order to cover the demand for seats this summer.  The extra frequency and larger aircraft will provide an additional 25,000 seats to the Balearic Island directly from the Docklands, in order to make holidays to Palma de Mallorca more accessible than ever before.

As a result of the early season demand, the three-times-a-week flights are set to increase to six-days-a-week, excluding Saturdays, during July and August.  Meanwhile, Friday and Sunday flights to Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza will utilize the new Embraer 190 aircraft, which will continue until October 31st, allowing for long weekend breaks.  The new extension also means that flights will continue on until the end of school half-term holidays.

The new route is just the latest addition to London City’s top destinations. The airline has also added more flights to Nice and Ibiza.

In total, British Airways flies to 12 destinations from London City Airport, including Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Faro, Barcelona, Nice, Madrid and Malaga.  Flights are operated exclusively by British Airways’ subsidiary BA CityFlyer.

Destination Focus: Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca’s capital city, Palma de Mallorca is located on the south side of the island, on a bay that is renowned for its excellent sunsets.

Locals call the area outside the capital the “part forana”, meaning the ‘part outside’.  All along here, the coastline is characterised by rocky coves and harbours.

Not far from here, visitors will dinf the large Illa de Sa Dragonera island.

The spectacularly scenic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range is located here on the northwest coast, with Puig Major (1445m) as its highest peak.  Heading northeast, here the coastline is defined by two bays – the Badia de Pollenca and the larger Badia d’Alcudia.

Meanwhile, the east coast is home to a continuous chain of sandy bays and open beaches, which contribute to the densely packed tourist developments. Meanwhile, most of the south coast is characterised by beaches and coves and lush greenery, moving inland.
