Sanford Car Hire to Put Orlando International Airport in the Shade

Posted on March 07, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

When it comes to Florida car hire this summer, car hire Sanford Airport definitely has the advantage over its closest rival, Orlando International Airport.  Over the summer months, passengers renting a car from car hire outlets at Orlando International Airport will be slapped with a $2.50 (€1.63) levy on all rentals.  The Florida airport authority has decided to add the tax onto each day that a client decides to rent a car from an airport counter, as a means of funding upgrades to car hire services at the airport.

The new tax is being referred to as a “customer facility charge”.  There is some reprieve for longer-term renters, however.  Customers who book a car for extended periods will only be charged for up to five days.  In such cases, the maximum that any single renter will be liable for is $12.50 (€8.12).  Most rental car companies are opposing the new surcharges, recognising that the industry is already over taxed.
