Luxembourg car hire has its ups and its downs…
The Good:
When you’re renting a car in Luxembourg, all you need to bring with you is a valid driver’s licence – an international driver’s licence is not essential.
Most major car rental companies have offices in the capital.
In terms of visuals, driving in Luxembourg is like driving through the illustrated pages of a fairytale. As proof of its beauty and historical importance, the whole of the capital, Luxembourg is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Due to its small area, there are no toll roads in Luxembourg.
The total area is just 999 square miles (1608 square km). Driving north you’ll experience the verdant, wooded Ardennes, while to the south you’ll find flat, farming pastures and vineyards. Road-trips are quick and easy, as the furthest destination from the capital can be reached within half an hour.
The Bad:
Arranging Luxembourg car hire in smaller towns and villages can sometimes cause problems.
Many parking spaces in the capital require you to pay by the metre. Much of the city falls under the “Blue Zone” rule which means you have to display a parking disc from a tourist office or police station.
The Ugly:
Luxembourg is a very densely populated country and driving can prove difficult at times. With lots of cars on the road, it is common for tempers to boil over and cases of road rage are widespread. Like anywhere, the major roads are at their busiest during summer and Christmas travel periods, as well as on the national holiday, June 23rd.
