Car Hire the Only Way to Travel in London this Christmas
Posted on November 24, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard
The misery predicted for train passengers over the Christmas period looks set to continue into the new year as rail season tickets rise by a predicted 11% in January. Taking advantage of legal loopholes in the fares regulation system, train companies will go ahead with the fares hike unless the government decides to intervene. Consumer lobby group Passenger Focus has already attacked the Department for Transport’s plan to introduce rises given that inflation has begun to fall. The Association of Train Operating Companies has hit back by saying increased revenue would pay for major improvements.
As Argus Blog reported last week, all rail and London Underground services will be closed on Christmas Day, with a heavily-reduced service nationwide on Boxing Day and later first trains on Saturday December 27. So it seems car hire is drfinitely your best bet if you’re planning to travel to London or the UK over the Christmas period. If you haven’t sorted your Christmas car hire yet, it might be time to get your skates on- availability is already slipping way as the scramble for car hire goes into overdrive.
