Caution Urged Over Dangerous Road Conditions

Posted on March 03, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution due to dangerous road conditions in many parts of Ireland.

Snow, ice and slippery conditions were reported this morning and conditions appear to be worst in the northwest of the country, with several minor collisions already reported as a result of the snow on the roads.

In Wicklow motorists are advised to avoid the Sally Gap where road conditions are described as treacherous.
Gardaí in Monaghan, Sligo, Mayo, Longford and Leitrim have also reported that snow is staying on the ground and driving conditions are poor.
Conditions are especially dangerous on the N80 between Portlaoise and Stradbally.
Driving is also said to be difficult on the N69, N8 at Thurles and the N6 between Moate and Athlone.
Drivers should also note dangerous conditions on the N16 Sligo to Manorhamilton Road and on the N15 Ballyshannon to Donegal Road.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed dramatically and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.  For more winter driving tips see:
