Clear Skies Ahead for New British Airways Carrier
OpenSkies, the subsidiary carrier of British Airways has won the right to begin flights from the Continent to the US.
The carrier will start offering flights from Paris Orly Airport to New York JFK from June, following approval from the US Department of Transportation.
OpenSkies will be able to begin selling tickets and will begin taking bookings bookings via its website or by phone.
Commenting on the new deal, the airline’s managing director Dale Moss said: “We are delighted to receive approval for take off and sincerely appreciate the DoT’s efficiency and careful consideration in reviewing our application. As the first airline to be created as a result of the Open Skies agreement, this is a huge step forward as we work to make history and a new set of industry standards across the Atlantic.”
The airline will fly one Boeing 757 with a second Boeing 757 due to join later this year from BA, growing to a fleet of six by the end of 2009.
Additional routes on the cards include: Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan to New York.
