Day One: Montreal to Quebec

Posted on September 16, 2008 by enavarro

Toronto.  It seemed like days since we’d left Dublin.  Another city, another flight.  This time we were heading to Montreal airport. At least we’d have our own set of wheels when we got there.

We picked up our car hire at 4.30pm.  It was a Ford but it didn’t matter what it was, we were just glad to have a car waiting. If I saw one more airport terminal…

The agent on the desk made lots of enquiries about damage cover, but we were pretty sure we didn’t need the 15 types of insurance he was offering.  Next question…who’d drive the first leg of our trip to Quebec?  We flipped a coin.  Heads the bleary –eyed Catalonian, tails the less tired German.  It was decided. Toto (Thorsten) won-it was just as well.  We had a wedding to get to the next day and we wanted to make it there in one piece, or at least get the hire car there in one piece.  And so our road trip began.  On long drives like this GPS is a godsend. Driving in Canada and the US is confusing even with Sat Nav.  You might have four different options for where to turn at any one point.  Anyway it was all becoming a blur of skyscrapers and hills and grass and lakes and small towns and gas stations and roadside diners…
