Dublin Airport has launched a video on YouTube to help first-time parents find their way through the awkward muddle of security restrictions and baggage allowance limits.

The video features Aisling O’ Donoghue, founder of Baby Travel Shop and her baby son.  The mother of three approached the Dublin Airport Authority after she received a ‘flood of enquiries’ from new parents who were unsure about how to bring their pram through security or were confused about food allowances on the plane.

Although the video was filmed on location in Dublin Airport, the information can easily be applied to any international airport.

What I learned from this video:

  1. It’s ok to bring along boiled water but not boiling water…you’ll see why in point two!
  2.

  3. At check-in parents must verify the contents of a baby’s bottle by tasting it, but are allowed to carry sealed pre-prepared formula on board and medicines such as Calpol.
  4.

  5. Toy guns and water pistols will be confiscated so parents should always help or supervise small children who insist on packing their own bags.
  6.

  7. All dolls and teddy bears must undergo screening at security. Parents should assure small children that the procedure takes just a few seconds and they will be returned unharmed. (Bless)
  8.

  9.  There is only one prescription-filling pharmacy in Dublin Airport.  It is located in the departure area, just before the security gates. Over the counter medicines and toiletries are available at the Boots chemist located in the Loop shopping area.
  10.
