Five Spectacular Views from the Top

Posted on February 08, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

1. Acropolis (Athens, Greece)

In Athens, the Acropolis dominates the skyline, but its the hill that gives visitors the most heavenly view over the city. The Acropolis is probably one of the best known ancient ‘high cities’ in the world.  It can be reached most easily by driving along the coast to Pergamum, from where you’ll see the Acropolis rising above the plain below, providing a spectacular view of the surrounding region.

2. Eiffel Tower Paris (Paris, France)

Climbing the stairs or taking an elevator is the only way to negotiate Paris’s most iconic landmark.  From the top, it’s possible to get a birds eye view over rooftops garden and the magnificent cityscape that has captivated artists for centuries. Even if you don’t climb the tower, with Argus Car Hire you’ll get a stunning view of the tower from all over the city.
3. White Cliffs of Dover (Dover, England)

Immortalised in many a song and movie, the White Cliffs of Dover stretch from the town of Dover in the east to the town of Kent in the west.  The cliffs owe their distinctive white appearance to the chalk (calcium carbonate) found naturally in the stone façade.  Forming the final view of Britain before reaching the continent, The White Cliffs of Dover have long played an important role in the British psyche.

 4. Grand Canyon (Arizona, USA)

‘Grand’ by name, grand by nature-at its extremes, the Grand Canyon measures up to 29km wide from rim to rim and 1600m (a mile deep).
Although many of the Canyon overlooks are accessible by car, it’s worth parking your vehicle and taking a walk to the Canyon View Information Plaza.
The view is the best from the south rim, and with the sun over your shoulder; it’s probably the best place to capture the moment on film.
5. Giants Causeway (Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland)

Located on the North Antrim Coast, the extraordinary rock formations that make up the Giant’s Causeway are some of the most enigmatic and awe-inspiring sights you’ll ever witness.  On first view many people mistake the geometric sandstone columns for manmade structures.
