Flyglobespan Collapse Advice

Thousands of passengers face an uncertain Christmas and New Year with the news that the Scotland-based airline, Flyglobespan has gone into administration.
The majority of the airline’s 800 staff have been made redundant and all scheduled flights have been cancelled.
The Civil Aviation Authority is currently looking after holidaymakers who have found themselves caught up in the collapse abroad.
However, another 3400 people who are on holiday are not protected because they booked directly through flyglobespan.com.
It is thought that up to 27,000 people have future flights protected through the ATOL insurance scheme and 90,000 people have forward bookings but no protection.
If you fall into the latter category, you may be protected under your own personal travel insurance or through your own credit card transactions.
The airline’s administrators at PriceWaterHouseCoopers have issued the following advice, which covers most scenarios:
If you’ve paid by credit card or booked through a tour operator protected by the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (Atol) scheme, you should get a refund.
If you’ve booked a package through The Globespan Group plc you are also likely to be protected.
If you’ve booked flights through Globespan Airways Limited, you’re unlikely to be covered by the administrators.
If you booked through Globespan Group plc, you should be able to remain in your hotel or villa and enjoy the rest of your holiday.
In most cases, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will foot the bill. It will also organise flights if you need to be flown home.
If you booked directly with Flyglobespan you will have to pay again for your return flight.
If who wish to make a claim, you can do so through Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
You should not have any problem getting your money back if you booked through an Atol protected company.
