Gatwick Set To Lift Luggage Restrictions

Posted on February 11, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

Gatwick Airport is edging towards relaxing its single hand baggage restrictions but this is still limited to connected flights.

The airport is set to allow people to travel with more than one piece of hand baggage on connecting flights through the North Terminal, in addition to the South Terminal, subject to individual airline’s rules.

However, Gatwick said the one bag rule still remains in place for all other flights.

“This rule will be relaxed in the near future when the ongoing construction project to upgrade and expand the security facilities at the airport is completed” said a statement.

The British government has set May 31st 2008 as the deadline for lifting current hand luggage restrictions.

Since last July, Gatwick created six new security lanes and a further seven new lanes are set to open by Easter.  The airport has also over 450 new airport security officers on the past 12 months.
