Travel Advice: Our latest query comes from a customer called Julie who is taking a family holiday in Orlando and is wondering how best to see Orlando’s Universal Resort…

Julie says:

Hi Fiona

We’re visiting relatives in Miami this July but we’d like to make the most of our family holiday by taking a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando. We have already booked Miami car rental – does it make sense to drive to the resort ourselves or do we have any other options?

Julie, Bambridge

Fiona Says:

Hi Julie

Thanks for your question. Orlando is a great destination for a family holiday, offering not only the fun and attractions of Universal Studios, but also the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, SeaWorld and Busch Gardens.  With children in tow, it’s an essential Florida destination and the perfect day trip from Miami. As you have already booked your car rental in Miami, there is no reason why you can’t drive to Orlando.  Orlando is situated around 232 miles to the north of Miami and takes around 4 hours to reach by car.  The route is easy if you follow Florida’s Turnpike.  For the best directions see the official website of the attraction you’re visiting.

In order to get the most out of the attractions on offer, it is recommended that you set aside at least two days.

Universal Orlando Resort is divided into two separate theme parks. If you purchase a multi-day ticket you will be able to experience recent additions such as The Simpsons, Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket, Men in Black and Alien Attack.  Meanwhile at Universal’s Island’s of Adventure, you’re free to spend the day crawling high above the streets in the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man or drop 85ft while fleeing A T-Rex in Jurassic Park.  The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is another  must.

Alternatively, if you only intend to spend the day there, you can take a shuttle bus from Miami beach, south Florida.  Services run between 5am and 8am and arrive in Orlando at 11:15am.

Hope this information helps you decide…

Have a great time in Florida!

Best wishes

Fiona
