How to Book Geneva Airport Car Hire

Booking Geneva Airport car hire is a bit of a tricky affair. Before you book, you’ll have to decide which side you want to rent from – this will very much depend on where you’re travelling.
Both French and Swiss sectors are housed in the same terminal building, but customers should be aware that different policies apply to both.
Swiss Side Pick-Ups:
Picking up your rental car from the Swiss side is much quicker as most international flights arrive in the Swiss Sector. Prices for renting on the Swiss side may be a little more expensive, but Swiss cars come equipped with winter tyres and chains, which are essential equipment if you arrive during bad weather.
French Side Pick-Ups:
Rates might be a little bit cheaper on the French side but when you arrive in Geneva airport you will be in the Swiss sector and you’ll have to go all the way back through the airport to get to the French sector. Please be aware – you may also be charged extra for winter tyres or chains.
Returning your Rental Car:
When dropping back your rental car the French/Swiss motorway takes you directly to the airport.
If you’re dropping off at the French sector, it will take you an extra 40 minutes.
Don’t worry, if you’ve arranged to return your car to the French side you will be provided with a detailed map of where to return the car. When driving to the airport, do not follow signs for the airport. Instead go through the centre of Geneva so that you avoid using the Swiss motorways. If you happen to take a wrong turn, and you’re on a Swiss motorway with a French sector car, you could be fined with a 12-month fee for what could have been easily avoided.
