Catching Up with Old F-R-I-E-N-D-S

We talked for hours with Victor about what we’d been up to over the last few years.  He told us all about his life in New York working as an au pair, ‘a manny’ for a wealthy family.  Before we could say Fran Drescher or indeed Mrs. Doubtfire, Victor pointed out that his job entails driving the family’s three teenage children around more than anything else.  Personally, I don’t know if I could do it, but whatever pays the bills…
Next day we headed back to Manhattan to catch up on some sightseeing.  Victor had given us a few tip offs about where to eat, shop and visit in the city.  We took the ferry across to Staten Island (it’s free) and got some great photos of the Manhattan skyline.  Along with all the other tourists who’d hopped aboard, we made a beeline for the windows to get the best view.  Hundreds of workers take the trip for work every day, so the Statue of Liberty and glimmering skyline are old news to them at this stage.  We took a cab to SoHo and spent the rest of the day shopping, before having dinner in Little Italy.  New York was cool, and it would have been nice to spend a little more time exploring the city but we had a long drive to Canada ahead of us.
