Loch Ness Voted Number One UK Attraction
Posted on September 11, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

Brits have chosen Loch Ness as their favourite UK attraction in an online poll conducted by the RAC and VisitBritain, to uncover the “Seven Wonders of Britain”.
The Scottish tourist attraction and neighbouring Urquhart Castle were selected ahead of traditional sights such as Stonehenge, Hadrian’s Wall and the Houses of Parliament.
The famously haunted lake also beat off competition from Whitby Abbey, Hardknott Pass on the Lake District and Antony Gormley’s famous Angel of the North to top the poll.
Other popular sights such as Windsor Castle, Lincoln Cathedral and Snowdonia failed to make the list.
The survey was inspired by recent research that showed that twice as many Britions had visited the the Eiffel Tower than had been to Stonehenge.
Meanwhile Rome’s Colosseum and The Statue of Liberty were also found to be more popular than Wiltshire’s ancient stone circle, while only 40 per cent of people who took the original survey said they took pride in Britain’s attractions.
The results in full:
1. Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle
2. Whitby Abbey
3. Hadrian’s Wall
4. Stonehenge
5. Hardknott Pass
6. Angel of the North
