Manchester Car Hire Customers Hit By Strike Action

Posted on August 20, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

Staff at Manchester Airport have voted overwhelmingly to take strike action on August 27 and September 1st.  The airport has said that passengers will face considerable disruption during the strike days.

An estimated 75,00 passengers will use Manchester airport on each day of the strike.  The walkouts will affect passengers using a number of airlines including Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, KLM, Air France and Monarch.

Over 97 percent of Unite members at the airport voted in favour of taking strike action.

Manchester is the second UK city to be hit by strike action at its airport.  Last week, Unite workers in London voted on strike action at Gatwick and Stansted after refusing a 3 percent pay increase from ground services employer, Swissport.

If travelling on either of these days and you’re concerned about delays, you’re advised to check your airline’s website for updates or contact Manchester Airport directly at:  +44 (0) 8712710711
