No frills carrier Ryanair is to begin trials in August to allow mobile phones on its planes, despite widespread opposition from travellers.
Four other international airlines Air France, BMI, Emirates and SAS are also planning to test the service, while another weight carriers are considering the plans.
Qatar Airways has already ruled out the proposal entirely.
The prospects of talking in the air has divided camps so much so that The Daily Mail is running a campaign against introducing mobiles onto flights, meanwhile TripAdvisor and The Telegraph have already carried out their own separate polls.
