Foreign Family Holidays To Cost More

Yesterday, we brought you the news of proposed taxes on Dublin tourism, today the British Airport Aviation Authority is predicting that if a new holiday tax proposal goes ahead, the cost of a family holiday to Orlando or anywhere else outside of Europe could rise by as much as £90 (€115).
Aviation industry body the British Airport Aviation Transport Association is warning that British families will have to splash out an extra £250 (€318) by 2011 just to leave the country.
The warning came at the end of a consultation period on government proposals to introduce a new aviation duty which is due to be added on every departing aircraft to replace the current Air Passenger Day.
The new tax is expected by the Treasury to raise more than £3.5 billion in 2011.
The association’s secretary general Roger Wiltshire justified the taxes by saying the proposals would subsidise foreign carriers and airports because it would make it cheaper for travellers to connect to a hub on the Continent and then fly long-haul rather than taking a flight direct from he UK.
