New Hand Luggage Allowances

Posted on January 08, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

From January 7th air travel passengers departing from UK airports will be no longer subject to a one item per person luggage limit. Passengers will now be able to avail of new hand luggage regulations, allowing dimensions of 55x40x23cm (22 inches x 17.5 inches x 9.85 inches) as well as the equivalent of a laptop or briefcase-sized bag to be carried on flights. Passengers may also carry one additional personal item.

Those who have availed of online check-in should pay particular attention to the new regulations. Online passengers arriving at the departure gate with bags exceeding the permitted size will be forced to check-in their bags.

The new regulations mark a relaxation of the baggage restrictions introduced in November 2006. However, restrictions relating to carrying liquids will still remain in place. Argus Car Hire customers with questions about travel security and airport procedures are advised to contact the airport they are travelling to or their website.
