New US Entry Form Gets Go Ahead
Posted on September 29, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard
Homeland security authorities in the US this week confirmed that the introduction of a new electronic entry form for travel would be introduced early next year.
The Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, (ESTA) will be repalcing the green I-94 form that travellers must currently fill out every time they enter the US. The new for will remain valid for two years or up until the date that the visitor’s passport runs out.
Launching January 12th, the new security protocol means passengers must submit their documentation at least 72 hours before their scheduled flight so that they can be screened before boarding an aircraft.
Once the form is completed online, passengers must await one of three responses. If travel is authorised, no further action is required. If Travel is not authorised, the passenger must obtain a non-immigrant visa at the US Embassy. If an application is considered to be “pending”, the passenger must monitor the website for updates. A response should be received within 24 hours.
