Passport Strike Hits Last Minute UK Holidaymakers

Thousands of holidaymakers could find themselves stranded in dreary old Blighty for the summer as a strike by Britain’s regional passport offices takes affect across the UK from today.
Almost 3,000 staff at offices across the UK in protest at pay and cutbacks, the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) said.
The strike is affecting 68 interview offices and will delay the processing of nearly 60,000 passports.
The stoppage means anyone due to jet away in the next few days who discovers that their passort is out of date will have to miss out on their holiday.
New documents can usually nbe obtained in one day for an extra charge but this service will not be available during the strike.  Travellers awaiting ordinary passport applications will also face delays.
The seven regional passport offices affected by the strike are London, Liverpool, Belfast, Glasgow, Peterborough, Newport and Durham.
