Petrol Price Update

Posted on September 10, 2008 by Fiona Hilliard

The price of petrol has been a talking point in just about every country in the world this summer.  Renters have been going to all sorts of lengths to pay less at the pumps.  Some have hired smaller cars to avail of cheap car hire, some are taking shorter trips and others have become a lot more aware of speed limits and driving in a more economical way.

The question is: Who has it worst at the pumps? It seems like everyone thinks they have it bad these days but quick look at international prices tells us otherwise.  To make things easier for everyone we’ll talk dollars and gallons.

According to Portfolio.com, petrol is a bargain in Iran ($0.41 per gallon) and in Libya ($0.50) per gallon and cheap as chips in Venezuela, where it costs just ($0.12 per gallon).

Europeans seem to be getting the worst deal of all.

While drivers are paying $4.77 per gallon in the US, in the UK, petrol costs $7.64, while in Germany it costs $8.12 and $9.01 in the Netherlands.
