Alicante is synonymous with sun, sand, sea, sangria, blah blah blah, the usual clichés – that is of course unless you rent a car.  Alicante car hire opens up a whole range of attractive options in terms of things to see and do.  You don’t have to live someone else’s dream of what they think a holiday in the Costa Blanca should be when you have the independence to create your own perfect escape.

If you’re hiring a car in Alicante, you’ll usually pick it up at Alicante Airport.  In Alicante Airport, rental agent desks are located in the arrivals hall.  They’re pretty easy to find – just follow the arrows on the overhead signposts.

At this point, you might want to double-check the name of your supplier on your rental confirmation voucher to make sure that you’ve got the right desk.  This would also be a good time to get your passport, credit card and driver’s licence ready for inspection.  Perhaps put them all together in the same documents wallet for safekeeping.  When you get to the pick-up desk, you’ll be asked to present these items, along with your rental confirmation voucher. You will then be required to sign the rental agreement.  This is a contract between you and the supplier, detailing the terms and conditions of your rental.  If you haven’t already purchased insurance at the time of booking your car, you will have to do so from the agent now.  Once you’ve completed this paperwork, you will be handed the keys to your vehicle.  Before driving away, carry out an inspection of the vehicle and jot down any scratches, dents or minor damage that is visible.  If you have a camera, even better!  Photograph anything unusual and save these in case you need them later (sometimes disputes occur over damage to cars and these may prove to be precious evidence).

Before you leave the airport car park, make sure you know exactly where you’re going.  Consult your map or GPS, then and only then, should you take to the open road.

Denia, Calpe and Altea are just some of the scenic drives that are possible from Alicante.  Have fun exploring!
