With so many people cash-strapped but still wanting to get away on a vacation, many are now looking at holidays in their own country. The UK is full of history and amazing sights, perfect for everyone.

Go to London as a Tourist

Although those picking up car hire in London might venture into the capital, local people never consider the tourist attractions but there are many available in London. The London Dungeons offers an excellent opportunity to find out more about torture and the lives of those throughout the centuries, including stories of Jack the Ripper and the Great Fire of London.

Of course, London Dungeons is not the only place to consider in England’s capital. Madam Tussauds is the well-known waxworks museum and is full of models of the stars. You can sit down with George Clooney or have your photo taken with Johnny Depp. There are also special events put on throughout the museum, such as the Big Brother House or spending time with the cast of High School Musical.

See a Show

For those that do not want to do the tourist attractions in London, there is always the chance to see a show. London’s West End is the home of the most amazing productions and musicals, including the longest running musical: Les Miserables.

Instead of paying the full price at the booking office, take some time to find the small ticket booths. You can find them dotted around the city and most will offer money off seats. Check at the Tourist Information Centre to find the main stalls so you are not conned.

Take Some Time on the Cotswold Way

If the capital city is not something that interests you, then consider taking a trip to the Cotswold Way. This is popular scenic trail that covers miles of rural England, finishing in Bristol. There are tours throughout the year or you can make the holiday your own, by deciding where to stay and what to do.

There is something for everyone on the Cotswold Way, including biking and high-wire activities. If you book through a tourist company, you will have many of these offered to you. If you do on your own, keep a look out at everything that is available.

Spend a Romantic Break in Bonny Scotland

Scotland is a country that is full of beauty and history. Yes, the weather does get cloudy and it does rain a lot, but that is just part of the fun of being there. Scotland is a great option for romance, whether you want to stay in Perthshire or travel north to the Isle of Skye.

There are a lot of activities to do while in Scotland, including the Edinburgh Dungeons. You will find out more about William Wallace and how he was betrayed or find out more about the cannibalistic life of Sawney Bean.

If dungeons and history are not for you, there are lots of shopping opportunities in Glasgow. This is the largest city in Scotland and is full of the common high street stores, like New Look and Topshop. However, you will also benefit from the lesser known stores, including the toy store Hamley’s.

So, before you start looking for holiday opportunities abroad, take some time to look in your own backyard. There are chances that there is something perfect for you to enjoy, whether you want history or just want to take the time to relax and get away from the world.
