Ryanair and EasyJet – It’s War!

I’m no Mystic Meg but I’d says a price war is definitely on the cards for the UK’s two no frills airlines.
Today Ryanair blasted its rival easyJet, saying there’s no way easyJet can compete with Ryanair’s fares. Reacting to easyJet’s claims that they offer better value than Ryanair the Irish airline said that the only reason why easyJet was able to carry 45 million passengers was because most of these passengers “could not get seats on Ryanair’s fully booked aircraft.”
But wait. There’s more. Ryanair’s Stephen Mcnamara also had this to say: “Passengers prefer Ryanair’s average fare of 30 because it’s half of easyJet’s fare of 60. This is why Ryanair is adding new bases and new routes all over Europe while easyJet is closing bases and pulling aircraft from Luton, Liverpool, East Midlands, Bristol and Rome Ciampino.
Not pulling any punches (he’s obviously learnt a thing or two from the master O’ Leary), McNamara continued: “In order for Ryanair to match easyJet we would have to double our average fare, something we have no intention of doing because this winter we will lower our fares even further to ensure an even ‘tougher winter’ for high fare airlines like easyJet, BA and others.”
Woooo easyJet and BA in the same breath. They must be quaking in their orange boots.

If all these sound-bites from budget airlines culminate in seat sales, I’m quite happy to sit back with my popcorn and let them at it!
