Ryanair Launches New Baggage Rules

Ryanair is changing its baggage rules. AGAIN.  I can hardly keep up.

So what is it this time?

Well, they’re doing us passengers a big favour by letting us check-in a whole 20kg instead of 15kg for our first piece of luggage. But it being Ryanair, there is of course a sting in the tail.

If you opt to check in 20kg, it’ll cost you €25 (£25) one way or €15 (£15) if you’re checking in 15kg.

HOWEVER: If you’re a bit absent minded and forget to check in your luggage on-line, you’ll be hit by a hefty €45 (£45) charge at the airport.

Miraculously, carry-on luggage is still free, but there’s a limit of 10kg per passenger, meaning you have to squash all your worldly goods into a cabin-friendly bag. Yuck.  I don’t know which is worse, having to fork out €50 to fly a normal-sized suitcase there and back or downsizing on everything and then still having to drag all your belongings all over town.

The only thing you can really do is play them at their own game…

Other ways to cheat Ryanair out of their exorbitant charges:

  1. Buy all your toiletries and shampoos when you get to your destination
  2.

  3. Try to wear your heaviest, bulkiest clothes and shoes for the flight
  4.

  5. Fold your clothes neatly and properly to save on space
  6.

  7. Don’t waste money on their in-flight rubbishy food offerings of hot-dogs, paninis and chilli (???), eat at home or in a proper restaurant before you leave for the airport
  8.
