Ryanair Lifts Smoking Ban
Posted on August 24, 2009 by Fiona Hilliard
First mobile phones, then pay-as-you-go toilets, now cigarettes.
That’s right, Ryanair’s trolley dollies are once again flogging packets of fags onboard most flights.
But how did O’ Leary by-pass the EU on this one?
Well, as you’d come to expect from anything that’s Ryanair-related, it’s smoking but not as you know it.
His cheeky cabin crew are of course peddling “smoke free” cigarettes.
According to a spokesperson for Ryanair, they’re already doing a rip-roaring trade on flights out of Italy, as well as those departing the UK, Germany and France.
The smokeless nature of the cigarettes means they may be enjoyed during flights but also presumably in your hotel room, in cafés, bars and restaurants and anywhere else where conventional smoking has been banned.
The cigarettes use cartridges of nicotine that the smoker inhales before a water vapour that looks like smoke is breathed out by the user.
They are currently priced at €6 (£5.20) for a pack of 10.
So what do you think…a small price to pay for a crafty nicotine fix or complete opportunism from the man who famously said, “the ice is free, but if we could find a way of sticking a price on it, we would.”

I think this is totally what Ryanair always done with its passengers.
They take them stupid, and they don’t care about them

It’s a tough one. You could say they’re trying to make life easier for smokers on flights. Then again, are they just encouraging their habit by doing so?

I agree with Ben. I also think though that if there is a way for smokers to get their nicotine fix without harming other passengers that’s fine. So, if these ‘smokeless’ designs really wdidn’t emit anything I’d be happy with that, but I’m not happy with clouds of anything coming out of smokers or their fags. BAN em!!!

Well apparently they emit a water vapour that resembles smoke. What’s contained in the vapour is anyone’s guess…would be interesting to hear if anyone has sat beside someone smoking one on a flight yet or has even tried one?

Whatever happend to the freedom of choice? I’ve got to rent a car in a few days and all 3 who will be in the car are smokers. We don’t care if we rent a car that stinks of fags because we’ll be lighting up before we start the engine… however this nazis in government are nothing short of chinese dictators (Ultimately I’m calling them the worst of the worst, chinese crossed with Germans… ewww) . I live in England and there’s an all out ban on smoking in buildings, hire cars, company cars etc. I understand that a lot of non smokers don’t want to be getting harmed through no fault of their own but the government never offered a ban which could see selected pubs, clubs, hire cars etc offer a smoking facility. Damn Nazis, i tell ya!!
