Salzburg Skips to the Beat of new Sound of Music Hotel
The hills of Salzburg will be alive with fans of the Sound of Music this July, when the von Trapp family villa opens its doors as a hotel for the first time.
Guests at the hotel will be able to enjoy all of their favourite things (sorry) about the movie at the hotel, from sleeping in original bedrooms to getting married in the famous chapel.
Commenting on the newest addition to Salzburg’s hotel portfolio, Leo Bauernberger from the Salzburg Provincial Tourist Board said: “The hotel really is a milestone for the commercialisation of The Sound Of Music for Salzburg,” adding “The Sound of Music is well and truly a stroke of luck for this city.”
The hit 1965 motion picture was borne out of the real life story of an aspiring nun who sang her way into the hearts of Baron von Trapp and his seven children.
The von Trapp family lived in the villa from 1923 to 1938, before fleeing from the Nazi invasion of Austria. A missionary order bought the residence after World War II and recently agreed to hand it over for use as a hotel. Developers say changes to the building will be minimal and work will be limited to essential maintenance such as painting and rewiring.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of visitors from the US, UK and Australia visit Salzburg with the main intention of checking out the city’s famous Sound of Music sights. Car hire in Salzburg, as well as specially organised tourist trails provide visitors with a truly memorable experience.
