Â
You’ve finally taken the plunge. You’ve booked your US car hire and you’ve got your suitcases packed-you’re ready to hit the road for the adventure of a lifetime.Â
However, for good reason, you may be worried about having to curtail your trip due to current petrol costs. You may have concerns that you might even have to take a rain check on some of the places you had highlighted in your guidebook and circled on your map.Â
Follow our tips for saving petrol and you won’t need to alter your plans at all:
- Make sure tyres are inflated up to the recommended pressure, as indicated on your rental car’s door or glove box.Â
- Â When possible, avoid using a rooftop carrier as it causes drag which reduces fuel economy by almost 5 percent.Â
- Be choosy about where you fill up. Sam’s and BJ’s Wholesale Club offer fuel that is usually four to ten cents lower per gallon than those at other service stations.Â
- Check websites like www.gasbuddy and www.gaspricewatch.com. You’ll find lists of the stations that charge the lowest prices by city.Â
