Provence is home to some of France’s most scenic drives and has long been the favourite destination for day-trippers looking to enjoy a leisurely jaunt in the French countryside.  The following three are just a few of our favourite drives in the area:

Mont Ventoux:

Mont Ventoux is one of those stunningly picturesque destinations that you ‘d probably only ever be lucky enough to stumble across while flicking through the images on a postcard stand. It’s the type of place that begs you to photograph its cherry-blossomed groves and fragrant, lavender carpeted fields.  Driving up its forest-lined road of pine, oak and beech is a real treat for the senses.  But however pretty these may seem, these quickly fade into the background when compared to the view from Mont Ventoux on a clear day.  In the shadow of the snow-capped Alps you’ll be forgiven for feeling a little awe-struck, afterall you’re standing in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The Wine Route:

A drive along the wine route is a must for vino connoisseurs visiting the Provence area.

The wine route takes you through the heart of the region’s two wine-producing areas and offers visitors the opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful natural sights of southeastern France.

Lying 34km south of Lyon, the town of Vienne is an excellent starting point for a tour of the Cotes Roties.
Meanwhile,  heading further south, you’ll come to Condrieu.  Most famous for its vintage produce, the village provides a wonderful view over the river and is a great stopping off point for those who’ve brought a picnic.

St Remy:

The village of St. Remy is another must see.  Located in the northern part of the Alpilles, St Remy was once an ancient Roman settlement and this is still evident to this day in the city’s walls.

St Remy is famous for having several restaurants and museums, as well as a lively street market so there’s plenty to see and do as well as places to eat and great places to stay.

Meanwhile, if you want to get out into the countryside for a drive, you’ll find lush, verdant valleys and ancient streets lined with beautifully restored old houses.
