Seven Rules for Greener Holidays
Good planets are hard to find. This summer, be kind to our Earth by following our tips for enjoying the world’s most beautiful destinations with a clear carbon conscience.Â
1. If you haven’t already, think about renting a compact, biofuelled or hybrid car.
2. Extend your holidays. Go overseas once a year for four weeks instead of twice a year for two weeks.
3. Remember the laws of the jungle. Minimise your waste, protect wildlife and tread lightly.
4. If travelling in a remote area, try not to buy or drink bottled water, instead treat your water with purifying tablets or iodine as they leave no waste and use no energy.
5. Turn off lights and TVs when leaving your hotel room.
6. Whatever you take with you into remote areas, take out with you.
7. Steer clear of businesses, shows, markets or zoos that exploit or are cruel to animals.
