Staycations So Last Year

The ‘staycation’ which saw millions of UK and Ireland holidaymakers staying put in the country for their holidays seems to have taken a bit of a backseat this year.

According to Amazon.co.uk, travel guide books about Orlando, Florida and Morocco have been flying off the shelves in recent weeks.

The website published its top ten travel books sold so far this year and surprisingly, only one of the guides covers Britain. Four books about Britain made the top ten at this time last year.

Now with En-gerland out of the World Cup and Ireland’s summer returning to its familiar wash-out weather, it looks like a mass exodus might be on the cards this July and August.

Incidentally, the most popular travel books last year were guides to camping and walking trails in the UK.  This year however, people are chancing a trip further afield – destinations including China, New Zealand and Australia are proving especially attractive.

Meanwhile, the threat of volcanic ash seems to have slid off the radar for now… fingers crossed we’ve seen the last of delayed and cancelled flights in Europe.

Top Ten Travel Guides at Amazon.co.uk:

1. Brit Guide to Orlando

2. Lonely Planet Guide to India

3. Lonely Planet Guide to Australia

4. Lonely Planet Guide to New Zealand

5. Secret London – An Unusual Guide

6. Lonely Planet Guide to Italy

7. Lonely Planet Guide to China

8. Lonely Planet Guide to Morocco

9. Lonely Planet guide to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos & The Greater Mekong

10. Lonely Planet guide to California
