It’s looking like a bumper week of strikes in airports across Europe. You have been warned…
- In Frankfurt, a strike by ground crew which has cancelled hundreds of flights is continuing into its third day.
- The workers’ union said it will continue the dispute for weeks if necessary.
- Workers are holding out for higher pay and are arguing that their jobs have become more difficult following the introduction of a fourth runway last October.
Today, airport operator Fraport said it hoped to offer 70 per cent of flights as normal.
- In London’s Heathrow Airport, staff at the Heathrow Express rail link have announced strike dates following a dispute involving a sacked driver and the suspension of a union representative:
- 24-hour strike from 1215 GMT on 26 February
- 48-hour strike from 0300 GMT on 3 March
- 24-hour strike from 1215 GMT on 11 March
Finally, look out if you’re due to pick up Madrid car hire or car rental in Barcelona or even Majorca this week.
- Spanish airline Iberia has released a list of flights due to be cancelled on February 24 due to the pilots strike.
- 107 flights are set to be cancelled, representing 34% of the flights scheduled for that day.
- The airline will offer changes in tickets and offer refunds to affected customers or place them on flights operated by other airlines the airline said.
- The company will also keep customers informed via their Facebook and Twitter pages and Iberia desks at 100 airports where they offer flights.
