Ten Laugh Out Loud Travel Bloggers: Part One
Posted on January 16, 2012 by Fiona Hilliard
Today is Blue Monday, said to be the most depressing day of the year. That’s no way to start the week. Take your mind off all things January and have a laugh with our pick of the web’s funniest travel writers.
Oh, and don’t forget to check back in with us on Wednesday to see who made the second cut.
1. The Travel Tart (Anthony)
The Travel Tart aka Anthony takes a typical ‘no holds barred’, Aussie bloke’s approach to all things travel-related, sharing the thrills and spills of life on the road on his Travel Tart site.
In his latest series of blog posts he’s in Japan and pondering huge cultural questions such as…what if beer was readily available in vending machines back home ?
2. Suzy Guese (Traveling with a Red Headed Temperament)
Don’t be fooled, there’s more to Suzy Guese than that shampoo commercial-ready mane. Well, we can only assume that her red-headed temperament is responsible for the delightfully sarky edge that runs through all of her travel writing.
Have a look at her recent post critiquing the hotel industry. Let’s just say we wouldn’t want to be the wi-fi guy!
3. Michael Hodson (Go, See, Write)

Michael Hodson used to to be an Arkansas – based attorney. That is until 2008, when he set out to see the world, with the intention of only travelling by land. He is currently adding the finishing touches to a book that he has written about his adventures along the way. When it comes to getting a laugh, this is a travel blogger who pulls no punches. One of the highlights of his site is his ‘unlucky 13‘ feature where he grills some of the world’s leading travel bloggers court-room style…often with chuckle-worthy results.
4. JourneyWoman (Evelyn Hannon)
What can we say about Evelyn Hannon and her JourneyWoman blog? The woman is considered a legend amongst the travel blogging community. Since 1997 – yes- 1997, this witty travel writer has been the go-to resource for solo and female and solo female travellers. On Evelyn’s site you’ll find all sorts of tips and fun advice – from making toasted sandwiches with a hotel iron (!), to suggestions on what to wear – where. We love the quirky cartoon illustrations too.
5. Adventurous Kate (Kate McCulley)
Kate McCulley is definitely a travel blogger who never leaves home without packing her sense of humour. In fact, you can even depend on cheeky Kate to drag an innocent picture-perfect scene into the gutter. Read her recent blog post about hot air ballooning in Cappadocia to see what we’re talking about…
