The Big Day
Arriving in Quebec at 10am, we managed to make it to the church on time for Nicole’s big day. Phew! Our trusty Ford had served us well so we gave it the day off, while we partied into the early hours. The wedding was a truly international affair. Nicole is German, her husband is from the US and the ceremony was conducted through both French and English. There was even a Scottish bag-piper thrown in for good measure. Congratulations again Nicole!
The following day, we weren’t up to doing much more than a bus tour of the city. Quebec is a really beautiful city. A visit to Castle Frontenac is a must. The castle looks ancient and is very European in appearance, but it was actually built in the 19th century. It’s now a hotel and this year it forms the centrepiece for the city’s 400th birthday celebrations. I have to say, on the day we visited there was a real party atmosphere in the area. According to our tour guide, it’s one of the most photographed buildings in Canada, but tour guides always say stuff like that don’t they?! Tour buses can only take you so far so as you can imagine we were looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of our rental car and seeing what the rest of Quebec had to offer us.
