US Road Trip Tips

A road trip across the US is the adventure of a lifetime. The wide-open spaces, dusty desert backdrops and dramatic landscapes all provide plenty of scope for touring. There are a few differences between renting a car in Europe and US car rental however. If you’ve never rented a car in the US,  you might like to consider the following :
- Be sure that you understand the conditions of your rental. Check whether there is a penalty charge for no-shows.
- How long will the agency hold the car if you’re stuck in traffic on the way to picking up your vehicle?
- Does the company charge for additional drivers? Do their names need to be added to the contract?
- What age restrictions apply to driving the car?
- In case of breakdown, enquire whether the company has offices in all states on your itinerary.
- If you decided on a one-way rental, check how much the drop-off charge is. Some can be sky-high!
- Keep your confirmation number safe. If renting at an airport, be sure to give the customer service representative your flight number and scheduled arrival time. This will usually protect your reservation if your flight is delayed.Â
