Virgin Launches Space Flights
After five years of hush-hush development, a windswept Richard Branson last night launched Virgin’s first commercial spacecraft.
Unveiling SpaceShipTwo in front of a shivering audience in the Mojave Desert, California, Sir Richard called it the “sexiest spaceship ever.”
Already up to 300 people have forked out $200,000 (£120,000) to secure their seat on the intergalactic journey and will allow them to view the curvature of the earth so that they can experience the sensation of being weightless for several minutes.
Up to 82,000 have also registered their interest to fly on the company’s Space travel website.
The frenzied crowds, the promise of a one-off experience, the weird, toothy little man – you have to admit there’s more than a hint of Willy Wonka about this project.
Haven’t got $200,000 to spare? , the website is currently taking deposits starting start at $20,000. Bargain. All we need now is for Michael O’ Leary to come out spouting about a no frills version.
