What is the Cheapest Car Hire in the Algarve?

If you’re heading to the Algarve in December in search of some winter sun, why not consider car hire to enhance your travel experience? Renting a car in the Algarve is not only a cheap and easy way of getting from the airport to your apartment, it also gives you a licence to check out a number of exciting day-trips and less crowded beaches in the area.
Interesting drives in the Algarve include Silves, Monchique, Lagos and Sagres.
Don’t worry about these drives eating in to your holiday time – none of these take over an hour and a half to reach from Faro: Silves – (1 hour 21 mins), Monchique – (1 hour 15 mins), Lagos – (1 hour 5mins), Sagres – (1 hour 27 mins).
If anything, these day-trips will help shape some of your most memorable moments from your trip to the Algarve.
The way to find the cheapest car hire in the Algarve is to avoid booking your rental car for a short period of time. You’d be surprised to find that a 7-day rental will save you much more than a 3-day rental, when you look at the rates on a ‘per day’ basis. If you’re booking a weeklong holiday in the Algarve you might as well rent your car for the same time period.
Another good tip is to book a mini/economy-sized car, these will work out cheapest if you’re travelling as a couple or in just a small group. Then there’s insurance – don’t get sucked in by the car rental agent on the desk into paying for insurance that you don’t need. Check whether your insurance that covers you at home will extend to driving abroad. You might also be covered by your credit card. Some major credit cards provide this coverage. Do your research before you agree to any kind of extra insurance!
