Winter Sun Holidays in Spain
Barcelona:
Situated in Catalonia, in the north of Spain, Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city. If you plan to just laze on the beach, it might not be the ideal winter sun destination, but the city enjoys pleasant enough weather for sight-seeing. Barcelona is a wonderfully picturesque city offering fabulous shopping and beautiful architecture. A short journey to the peak of Tibidabo offers stunning views of the city. Barcelona is also renowned for it old city which teems with medieval buildings. Art Nouveau style is also evident, most famously the works of Antoni Gaudi. His church of the Sagrada Familia is a real must-see.
Costa del Sol
It’s easy to see why this sunny corner of Spain is often referred to as the Costa del Golf. As well as offering some of Spain’s finest beaches, it’s also a hotspot for golfers during winter months. The region’s 320 days of sunshine and comfortably warm 16-Celsius temperatures, make it the ideal destination for winter golfers.
There’s more to the Costa del Sol than golf though. The region is also home to the pretty city of Malaga and glitzy Marbella. Both destinations are served by Malaga Airport. Cheap flights to Malaga are plentiful, as is car hire.

The Canary Islands:
The fact that the Canary Islands share the same latitude as the Sahara means temperatures remain warm all year round. Summer highs continue well into winter with temperatures averaging 21 Celsius. The island’s black sandy beaches remain busy throughout winter, while the seven islands which make up the group buzz with adventure holidaymakers looking to exploit the unique volcanic slopes. Tenerife is by far the most popular of the islands to visit and is famous for its Los Gigantes cliffs and unusual moonscapes that can be seen all around Mount Teidi.
