Dubai car hire , Los Angeles car hire  and Cape Town car hire are the cheapest car rental deals you’ll find anywhere in the world, according to a new guide by CarDelMar.

The hot-off-the-press Gas Guzzling Guide is an index that claims to give an accurate insight into the costs of car hire in the world’s most popular holiday destinations.

The prices are based on one week’s rental and include the cost of the hire, insurance, extras and the price of fuel for a 250-mile journey.  The report also takes changes in exchange rates into account.

According to the report, the Norwegian city of Oslo was the most expensive.  Oslo car hire costs four times as much as Dubai car hire and twice as much as Majorca car hire.  Petrol in Dubai costs just 20p (25c) per litre, compared with 89p (€1.12) in Majorca and £1.28 (€1.60) in Oslo.

Despite having some of the highest petrol prices in the world, car hire London fared comparatively well, however congestion charges were not taken into account.
